Paramount Plans to remake 'Secret of the NIMH'

So, this is my first post and with good reason. I had been trying to figure out what a good first post might be and then I read this article today:

New 'Secret of NIMH' movie in the works at Paramount

So, apparently Paramount thinks its a good idea to remake a classic Don Bluth film with the director of The Illusionist, Neil Burger. Nothing against Burger because he is fairly new to the business and The Illusionist was decent, but you know that Paramount is going to push for the movie to be in line with Scooby Doo, Garfield, and Alvin and the Chipmunks. Why is it that very few people care about the story or character development anymore? Sure they are going to make a cheaper movie by using live action and cgi... but they are destroying the very essence of what going to the movie should be. With so few kids and adults being prompted to read these days, stop draining the substance of an award-winning book to the mere puddle of its existence.
